Tom Misch @ OC Observatory, Oct 21 2018

Tom Misch – how does such a young (23) South London geezer have so much talent? It’s the second time I’ve seen him this year and I’m again blown away. He writes hook-laden melodic jazz funk numbers with sophisticated arrangements but enough pop sensibility to retain engagement – and live he takes it to another level. It helps with a band like his. I love how a violin becomes a lead instrument. How the crowds whoop at jazzy guitar licks and saxophone solos. George Benson nervously looks over his shoulder. It’s just quality musicianship – good time funky music. The sold out crowd – and me – laps it up.

Quote of the week

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
